action

1978: Students Lenny, Eric, Kurt, Marcus and Rob win the basketball championship for the first and only time. 30 years later they receive the news that their coach at the time has passed away and meet again at his funeral: Lenny is an agent in Hollywood , married to a fashion designer and father of three children. Eric is an unemployed family man, Kurt a househusband who has suffered badly from his mother-in-law. Marcus is single and Rob is in a relationship with the much older Gloria after several marriages. Although Lenny's family is actually passing through to Milan , the friends decide to spend the weekend with their families at a lake after the funeral service and, following the last wish of the deceased, to scatter his ashes on an island. At the insistence of their opponents in the final there is a basketball game between the former players and their sons. Lenny misses the last litter to show his son, who is spoiled for success, what it is like not to win, and to give his former opponent the feeling of winning.

criticism

The film received mostly negative reviews. At Rotten Tomatoes , only 10% of 163 reviews are positive with an average rating of 3.4 / 10. In conclusion, it says: "The ensemble full of comedy veterans is nice, but is let down by the dull direction and the undemanding, interchangeable humor of the poor script." At Metacritic , the film received a rating of 30/100 based on 32 reviews .

Cinema described the film as a "heavily staged male comedy with lethargic actors". If the “inevitable adolescent gags” had been dispensed with, the film “could actually have told something about the disappointments of getting older and the need to remember the important things in life”. The film-dienst summed up that the film was a “top-class comedian, humorous, but at times reactionary ensemble comedy”, which “thanks to some improvisations, was not entirely unsympathetic”.
