Kirsten Beyer is an American writer , screenwriter and producer in the fields of science fiction and fantasy .

Life

Beyer studied acting at the University of California, Los Angeles . She came into contact with Jeri Taylor in the 1990s , who was then executive producer on the science fiction television series Star Trek: Spaceship Voyager . At Taylor's suggestion, Beyer developed several story ideas for possible episodes of spaceship Voyager between 1998 and 2000 , none of which were ultimately produced. She later sent an exposé to Pocket Books and was used for a novel based on spaceship Voyagercontracted. Her original design could not be implemented due to a change in staff at the publishing house. In 2005 she finally published the second part of the Spaceship Voyager- based String Theory trilogy. Two Buffy novels followed in 2008 and 2010 . In 2009 Beyer took over the Star Trek: -Voyager novel series begun by Christie Golden , which, in contrast to her first work, does not take place during the television series' plot time, but rather represents its continuation. Beyer had written nine volumes by 2018.

In 2016 she was hired as a staff writer for the newly developed Star Trek series Discovery . She was involved in the script for all episodes to date, as well as three episodes of the Star Trek: Short Treks series . Together with Mike Johnson , she wrote the stories for several Star Trek comics from 2017 . Beyer is also significantly involved as a writer and producer on the 2020 series Star Trek: Picard .
