Kjell Opseth (2007)

Kjell Opseth (born January 2, 1936 in Førde ; † December 3, 2017 ) was a Norwegian politician of the Arbeiderpartiet (Ap). He was Minister of Transport from 1990 to 1996 and Minister of Local Government and Labor from 1996 to 1997.

Life

Opseth learned the profession of electrician from 1953 to 1959 . From 1962 to 1963 he worked as an engineer in Porsgrunn . Until 1966 he worked as a plumber in Oslo . Between 1966 and 1985 he practiced this profession in his home town of Førde. From 2001 he worked in his self-founded consulting company.

From 1971 to 1983 Opseth was a member of the local parliament of Førde. Between 1978 and 1983 he was the chairman of his party in the province of Sogn og Fjordane . In 1981 he first moved into the Norwegian Parliament, the Storting . There he consistently represented the constituency of Sogn og Fjordane until 2001. In his last legislative period, which lasted from 1997 to 2001, he was a member of the parliamentary group's executive committee.

On November 3, 1990, he was appointed Minister of Transport in the Brundtland III government. He held the office until the departure of this government on October 25, 1996. He was also a minister again in the Jagland government that was then formed : between October 25, 1996 and October 17, 1997, he was head of the municipal and labor ministries.
