Klaus Kreiser

Klaus Kreiser (born March 6, 1945 in Rosenheim ) is a German orientalist and Turkologist .

Kreiser studied in Cologne and Munich , where he received his doctorate in 1972 and then taught. From 1976 to 1980 he was a research assistant at the German Archaeological Institute in Istanbul . In 1983 he completed his habilitation at the University of Munich. In 1987 he was Directeur d'Études at the Paris École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales . From 1984 until his retirement in 2005 he was professor for Turkish language, history and culture at the University of Bamberg . From 1996 to 2001 he headed the Individual and Society in the Mediterranean Muslim World project of the European Science Foundation and was visiting professor at the University of Chicago in 1998 . In 2013 he became a Senior Fellow of the Mercator Foundation / Sabancı University .
