Klaus Sallmann

Klaus Günther Sallmann (born September 24, 1934 in Thakhek in Laos ) is a German classical philologist .

Life

Sallmann was born as the son of the mining engineer Karl-Heinz Sallmann and his wife Ruth. Sallmann born. He attended elementary school in Cologne and after the first year at grammar school he moved to Marburg , where he attended grammar school Philippinum . He passed his Abitur at Easter 1954 at the Kaiser-Karls-Gymnasium in Aachen . He spent his first year of study in Tübingen , the second in Basel , the third again in Tübingen, the last two in Cologne . He attended events with, among others, Wolfgang Schadewaldt , Hans Krahe , Otto Friedrich Bollnow , Karl Jaspers , Josef Kroll , Andreas Rumpf , Hellfried Dahlmann , Hans Herter and Albrecht Dihle . His dissertation, supervised by Dihle and Dahlmann, Nature at Lucretius , which he defended on December 19, 1959, appeared in the Archive for Conceptual History in 1961 .

In 1968 Sallmann completed his habilitation in Mainz . In 1971 he became a scientific councilor and professor, in 1973 an adjunct professor at the University of Mainz , where he retired in 1999. From 1981 to 1983 Sallmann was dean of the Philology III faculty at the University of Mainz. From 1976 he was a member of the Academia Latinitati Fovendae and from 1992 of the Academy of Charitable Sciences in Erfurt .

Sallmann has dealt with Lucretius , the Augustan poetry ( Horace , Ovid ), the older Pliny and Censorinus , among others . He also takes care of promoting Latin as a living language .
