Klaus Wünnemann

Klaus Wünnemann (* 1962 in Duisburg ) is a German veterinarian and director of the Heidelberg Zoo .

Career

Wünnemann grew up in Mülheim an der Ruhr. After studying veterinary medicine, he first came into contact with the zoo through his doctoral thesis : He studied the behavior of predators such as sun bears and giant otters and came to the Hagenbeck Zoo in Hamburg. For two years he headed the mammal department at Magdeburg Zoo. Since April 1998 Wünnemann has been running the Heidelberg Zoo, which was founded in 1934, and accompanying changes, particularly in keeping elephants.
