history

The University of Kocaeli was founded in 1976 as the Academy of Engineering and Architecture in Kocaeli. At that time, the engineering departments of mechanical and electrical engineering as well as linguistics and cultural studies were initially taught. The academy was later given the status of a faculty and in 1982 was named Yıldız University (now Yıldız Technical University ) in Kocaeli. As a result of the university reform decided by the University Council of Turkey , the faculty in Kocaeli became an independent university.
