The Kongress am Park (until 2010 Kongresshalle Augsburg ) is an event location in Augsburg . It is located in the northeastern area of Wittelsbacher Park in the Antonsviertel and was opened in 1972. The multifunctional event location is used as a congress center , for sales exhibitions as well as for concerts and other cultural events. Since 2009 the hall has been run by the Kongresshalle Augsburg Betriebs GmbH and marketed by the Regio Augsburg Tourismus GmbH.

The Augsburg hotel tower, also opened in 1972, is in the immediate vicinity .

Emergence

The congress hall was opened on June 17, 1972. The architect Max Speidel presented the first plans in 1964. Completion was delayed due to planning changes and budgeted costs being exceeded. Also in 1972, the 118 meter high hotel tower was opened to complement the congress center. Both structures were integrated into the city garden on the northern edge of Wittelsbach Park.

architecture

The congress center was built in the exposed concrete construction typical of the 1970s and is now a listed building . The congress hall designed by architect Max Speidel is now one of the “important buildings of post-war modernism ” in Augsburg.

capacity

The Kongress am Park originally had two halls, six conference rooms and two foyers . After the renovation in 2012, these rooms were named after sponsors , except for the large hall , and narrower seating is possible so that more seats have been created. Additional rooms are also available.

modernization

Due to inadequate security facilities in the foyer, the total capacity was limited in December 2008. For events that take place in the entire building using the foyer, a total of only 1740 visitors are allowed. In 2010 the hall was closed and the renovation started. Around 21 million euros from the city budget, federal funds and contributions from private investors flowed into the project. The renovated congress center was reopened in May 2012. It also received a new lighting concept for indoor and outdoor areas.
