Konrad Kupfer

Konrad Kupfer (born September 13, 1883 in Thurn near Heroldsbach , District Office Forchheim ; † September 20, 1965 in Forchheim ) was a German high school teacher and local researcher from Upper Franconia .

life and work

Konrad Kupfer was the son of the master baker and innkeeper Andreas Kupfer and grew up in Hausen (near Forchheim) . He attended the old grammar school in Bamberg up to the Abitur in 1903. He then studied two semesters at the Lyceum in Bamberg , five semesters at the University of Erlangen and one semester at the University of Munich . In 1907 he passed the state examination in German, history and geography. He became a teaching trainee at a secondary school in Munich, in 1909 assistant at a secondary school in Neuburg an der Donau , and in 1913 a teacher at the secondary school in Zweibrücken . In addition, he continued to deal with art history and received his doctorate in 1914 at the University of Erlangen under Friedrich Haack with a dissertation on the Upper Franconian sculptor Friedrich Theiler . He later became a grammar school teacher in Nuremberg, and after 1945 director of the grammar school in Forchheim .

In addition to his work as a teacher, he dealt with the local history of his Upper Franconian homeland, especially of Forchheim and Horben , and was honorary director of the Palatinate Museum in Forchheim from 1951 until his death .

In 1952 he received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon. In 1957 he became an honorary citizen of Hausen, where the Kupferstrasse is named after him. On December 13, 1959, he became an honorary citizen of Forchheim.
