The Cooperative Comprehensive School Schneverdingen , also KGS Schneverdingen , is a cooperative comprehensive school in the Lower Saxon town of Schneverdingen . It was founded in 1976 and is now the only secondary school in the tourist town of Schneverdingen, which is located in the middle of the Lüneburg Heath and is part of the Heidekreis district as well as the Hamburg metropolitan region. The school authority is the district.

The three school branches of KGS Schneverdingen include secondary school , secondary school and grammar school with the upper level leading to the Abitur . From Monday to Wednesday there is an open all-day offer . With around 1,600 students and 135 teachers (school year 2011/12) it is one of the largest general education schools in Lower Saxony. The JOBwärts project launched by the school in 2011 to place secondary school leavers in vocational training is considered a " school project that is unique in Germany" and is also receiving national attention.

history

founding

Since the population of Schneverdingen grew rapidly after the Second World War , the community wanted to expand its range of schools in 1966 and asked Richard Langeheine, then Lower Saxony's Minister of Education, and Gustav Bosselmann , then Lower Saxony's Minister of Justice , whether a grammar school could be built in Schneverdingen. The request was not granted, but at the end of 1968 the city was offered a cooperative comprehensive school (KGS) as a school trial.

On October 10, 1973, the council of the municipality of Schneverdingen decided to apply for a KGS based on the so-called "Model B" with an orientation level and high school. In December 1973, an initiative group was formed for the establishment of a KGS in Schneverdingen under the direction of the Realschulkonrektor Oskar Eckert. In April 1974 it was decided that a KGS should be provided as an offer school in Schneverdingen. Initial reservations about the new type of school were met with intensive information events in 1974. In a vote requested by the state government, 80% of the parents concerned and 63% of the teachers of the cooperative comprehensive school agreed.

In February 1976 the planning group was constituted under the chairmanship of Oskar Eckert and his deputy Günter Maltz. Finally, with a decree of July 16, 1976, the establishment of a cooperative comprehensive school in Schneverdingen was approved, which then took over the already established orientation level and developed from the 7th grade to the 10th grade from August 1, 1976. With effect from January 1, 1976, the former district of Soltau-Fallingbostel (since 2011 Heidekreis ) took over the school sponsorship. The first general conference of KGS Schneverdingen took place on November 29, 1976.

Extension to include an upper school level

In January 1992 a parents' initiative was founded to introduce a secondary level II at KGS Schneverdingen, chaired by Irmela Schubert. In March 1992, the school administration applied to the district government in Lüneburg to set up an upper level . In December 1993 the district school committee approved this request, which was then rejected in January 1994 in the district committee. After further discussions, the motion was finally granted in April 1994 with the votes of the SPD, FDP and the Greens.

After renovations, from September 1, 1994, the first 11th year could be trained with 35 students.

principal

The first headmaster was Oskar Eckert, who actively accompanied the founding phase. He was followed by Günter Nielebock, Waldemar Lück and Wolfgang Winter. Wolfgang Winter retired in June 2013, his successor became Mani Taghi-Khani, the former head of the secondary school, on August 1, 2013.

Architecture and buildings

In 1972, a school building was erected on today's school premises in a first phase of construction for the orientation level school at that time. In 1973, the extension for the secondary school , built in a second construction phase, was moved into. The building is now referred to as an outbuilding.

Today's main building was added as the third construction phase in 1976; it was built according to the plans of the Schneverdingen architectural office Carsten Rieke Architekten , near the primary school in the Osterwald and the Osterwald stadium as a school building for the newly founded comprehensive school. In the decades that followed, the structure received several additions and, together with these, represents the majority of the current main building of the school.

In 1977 the large gym designed by Soltau architects Hornbogen and Krampitz was inaugurated. The construction costs amounted to 2.4 million DM .

In 1986 the walls and roofs of construction sections I and II had to be renovated. During the renovation, the building was supplemented by a forum and a teaching kitchen . In addition, the function rooms could be equipped.

In 2003–2004 the school was expanded and converted. Based on the existing building structure, a two-storey extension was built as a connecting wing between the secondary school and the grammar school, and the individual structures were thus combined to form today's main building of the school. The added classrooms, specialist teaching and collection rooms are accessed through glass connecting corridors on the ground floor and first floor. The construction costs were around 3.0  million euros , the client was the district of Soltau-Fallingbostel and the architectural services were provided by the Soltau architecture office Krampitz Architekten .

Due to the increasing number of all-day schoolchildren and participants in school lunches , a cafeteria was built next to the school building in 2008 according to plans by the Schneverdingen architectural office Hans-Jürgen Schmidt . The single-storey “all-day building” with a monopitch roof contains, in addition to the cafeteria, a school library designed as a self-study center with a media area, a multifunctional room, offices for the school's social pedagogues and sanitary facilities. The costs for construction and equipment totaled around 1.75 million euros; The building owner was again the district, whereby the city and the country contributed to the costs.

In 2009 the school yard of the adjoining building was redesigned in a natural way.

The classrooms of KGS Schneverdingen are now located in the main building as well as in an adjoining building where the fifth and sixth year classes are taught. The other years are taught in the main building. The sports hall on Harburger Strasse and the Osterwald Stadium are also used.
