Kornel Schimpl

Kornel Schimpl (* 1907 in Spišské Podhradie ; † 1985 ) was a Czechoslovak conductor, music teacher and composer.

Schimpl studied composition, conducting and piano at the Prague Conservatory and continued his training as a conductor from 1935 to 1937 in Vienna and Salzburg. From 1933 to 1941 he headed the Bratislava Radio Orchestra, after which he headed the music department of Radio Bratislava until 1945. Until 1973 he was Professor of Conducting, Head of the Composition Section and Head of the School Orchestra of the Prague Conservatory. In addition, he taught from 1949 to 1977 at the Pedagogical University in Bratislava and as an external lecturer at the musicological institute of the Comenius University in Bratislava .

As a conductor, Schimpl has conducted numerous appearances with the orchestra of the Prague Conservatory and the Bratislava Radio Orchestra and has appeared as a guest conductor with the Tonkünstler Orchestra of Lower Austria and the Moravian Philharmonic, among others . He conducted hundreds of studio concerts and promoted the works of contemporary composers such as Ján Levoslav Bella , Alexander Albrecht , Ján Cikker , Alexander Moyzes , Andrej Očenáš , Ľudovít Rajter and Eugen Suchoň . At the beginning of his career he also emerged as a composer and arranger of folk songs.
