The Vojany power plant is a thermal power plant near Vojany ( Košický kraj ) in Slovakia . It consists of twelve blocks with an output of 110 megawatts each . The operator is Slovenské elektrárne , a subsidiary of ENEL .

history

Planning for the first facility began in 1959, construction was approved in 1960 and construction began in 1961. It was completed in 1966. The second plant was approved in 1966 and went into operation in 1974.

The first plant is heated with coal imported from the Ukraine , which is delivered via a broad-gauge railway. The cooling water comes from the Zemplínska Šírava reservoir . The chimney used is 200 meters high.

The second plant burns heavy fuel oil . Between 1979 and 1985 it was modernized and rebuilt so that natural gas can also be used. The chimney, which was completed in 1974, was until 1998 the tallest chimney in Slovakia with a height of 300 meters next to the chimney of the Nováky power plant . In 1998, its height was reduced to 175 meters to reduce cross-border air pollution .
