history

On July 25, 1952, a comprehensive district reform took place in the GDR , in which, among other things, the states lost their importance and new districts were formed.

The new Werdau district was formed from the following 28 communities:
3 communities from the Gera district :

  • Großpillingsdorf, Mannichswalde and Vogelgesang

1 municipality in the district of Glauchau :

  • Waldsachsen

2 municipalities in the district of Greiz :

  • Fraureuth and Gottesgrün

22 municipalities in the district of Zwickau :

  • Beiersdorf, Blankenhain, Crimmitschau, Dänkritz, Gospersgrün, Hartmannsdorf b. Werdau, Königswalde, Langenbernsdorf, Langenhessen, Langenreinsdorf, Lauenhain, Lauterbach, Leubnitz, Neukirchen ad Pleiße, Niederalbertsdorf, Oberalbertsdorf, Ruppertsgrün, Seelingstädt, Steinpleis, Trünzig, Werdau and Zwirtzschen.

The district was assigned to the newly formed Karl-Marx-Stadt district . The city of Werdau became the district seat .

Due to changes in the municipal area and reclassifications in neighboring districts, the number of municipalities fell from 28 to 21 in 1990 to 15:

  • June 20, 1957 - incorporation of Oberalbertsdorf into the Gde. Niederalbertsdorf
  • February 01, 1973 - Incorporation of Gösau into the city of Crimmitschau
  • April 1, 1974 - Großpillingsdorf is incorporated into the district of Blankenhain
  • January 1, 1994 - Blankenhain, Langenreinsdorf and Mannichswalde are incorporated into the town of Crimmitschau
  • January 1, 1994 - Beiersdorf and Gospersgrün are incorporated into the district of Ruppertsgrün
  • March 1, 1994 - Niederalbertsdorf is incorporated into the Gde. Langenbernsdorf
  • Dec. 04, 1952 - Forest Saxony is reorganized into the Glauchau district
  • Dec. 04, 1952 - Braunichswalde and Gösau were reclassified from the Schmölln district to the Werdau district
  • Dec. 04, 1952 - Gottesgrün is reintegrated into the Greiz district
  • July 1, 1958 - Reclassification of Seelingstädt and Zwirtzschen, reclassification of Braunichswalde and Vogelgesang into the Gera-Land district .

On May 17, 1990, the district was renamed the Werdau district. On the occasion of the reunification of the two German states, the district was awarded to the re-established state of Saxony in October 1990 . During the first Saxon district reform , it was absorbed on August 1, 1994 in the new Zwickauer Land district .
