Kristian Olsen

Kristian "Aaju" Olsen (born August 21, 1942 in Arsuk ; † April 19, 2015 ) was a Greenlandic writer , poet , painter , translator and teacher .

Life

Kristian Olsen was the son of pastor Samuel Olsen († 1987) and his wife Sofie Thora Lund. He was a grandson of Gustav Olsen and a great-grandson of Rasmus Berthelsen . He married the Danish postwoman Lise Qvist (* 1945) on April 3, 1965.

Kristian Olsen grew up in Paamiut , attended school in Nuuk and then moved to Denmark , where he graduated from Sorø Akademi in 1964. In 1968 he finished the Jonstrup seminar in Fortunen at Kongens Lyngby and in the same year he started to work as a teacher at Skamlingsbanke Ungdomsskole in Grønninghoved near Sjølund in Vejstrup Sogn and at Balle Ungdomsskole in Balle in Bredsten Sogn . In 1970 he moved back to Greenland, where he taught in Upernavik for a year . From 1971 to 1973 he was a teacher and vice school inspector in Nuuk. He was then head of education for two years, then from 1975 colleague inspector in Aasiaat . In 1976 he moved back to Denmark, where he became vice school inspector at the Greenland boarding school Ellekilde in Tranegilde in Ishøj Sogn , which he headed from 1982. From 1985 to 1989 he studied and obtained a degree as cand. Pæd. He then worked as an adjunct at GUX , the Middle Greenland High School in Nuuk, until 1997 , and subsequently became head of Grønlænderhjemmet in Hellerup .

In 1969 Kristian Olsen wrote his first poem anthologie Puilasoq pikialaartoq . In 1972 he became active as a painter for the first time, with his main motifs being the Greenlandic landscape and nature, the Greenlanders themselves and East Greenlandic shamanism . His works have been exhibited in all eight Nordic countries , but mainly in Nuuk. In 1973 he created his first book with the picture book Mambo . Among other things, he translated Jørn Riel's collection of poems Sarfartuut into Greenlandic in 1979 , Inuutersuaq Ulloriaq's Beretningen om Qillarsuaq in 1985 , Ludvig Mylius-Erichsen's Isblink on Sermimi akisunnerit in 1998 and works by Prince Henrik of Denmark in 2009 . For his poetry collection Oqaatsit nunaat he was nominated in 2004 and for his crime novel Kakiorneqaqatigiit in 2010 for the Literature Prize of the Nordic Council . He gave lectures on Greenlandic art and culture. He was Greenland's Christmas stamp artist in 1985 and since June 25, 2007 he has been the recipient of the Nersornaat in silver.

Kristian Olsen spent his old age in Finland's capital Helsinki , but also had a summer house in Nordsjælland . He died on April 19, 2015 at the age of 72.
