Nordic Council Literature Prize
The Nordic Council's Literature Prize (Swed. Nordiska Rådets litteraturpris , Eng. Nordic Council Literature Prize ) in 1961 by the governments of the Nordic countries set up. It has been awarded annually by the Nordic Council since 1962 .
The jury has 10 members each with two representatives from Denmark , Finland , Iceland , Norway and Sweden . Each national committee proposes two works for each country. From Finland, one work each from the two national languages Finnish and Swedish will be proposed. In Norway, works on Bokmål or Nynorsk are awarded. The Sámi , Greenland , Faroese and Åland writers' associations each propose a work. If a work from the latter languages is nominated, the jury will be expanded to include a member from the respective writers' association.
The Nordic Council's Literature Prize is now endowed with DKK 350,000 (around € 47,000). The prize, which is given for a specific book and not for the life's work of a writer, is the most important award for writers in the Nordic countries. It is presented every autumn at the meeting , together with the film , music, and nature and environmental awards awarded by the Nordic Council.
