Rói Patursson
Rói Reynagarð Patursson [ˈrɔujɪ] (born September 21, 1947 in Tórshavn , Faroe Islands ) is a Faroese writer and philosopher . At the same time he is the director of the Faroe Islands Adult Education Center .
Life
After attending St. Frants School in Tórshavn and secondary school, Patursson went to sea from 1964 to 1965, after which he worked in various jobs on land in Tórshavn and Copenhagen . In 1968 he made a trip to Europe and then attended the grammar school in Tórshavn until 1969.
From 1970 to 1985 Patursson lived in Copenhagen. In 1973 he married Sólrun Johannessen, with whom he had their daughter Unn Cecilia in 1974. In 1976 he began studying philosophy at the University of Copenhagen , graduating in 1985 with a master's degree. In the meantime, the second daughter Lív Maria was born in 1981.
Back in the Faroe Islands in 1985, Patursson taught at night school and the University of the Faroe Islands and made radio broadcasts for Útvarp Føroya . In 1987 he accepted a position as a lecturer at the Skrivekunst Akademiet in Bergen . Patursson has directed the Faroe Islands Folk High School in Tórshavn since 1988.
Rói Patursson's literary work includes poetry and short prose . For the 1985 poetry collection Líkasum , he received the Nordic Council's Literature Prize in 1986 . This award is only given to one author per year, and Rói Patursson is the only Faroese writer besides William Heinesen to have received it so far.
