Kristin Dawn Chenoweth (born July 24, 1968 in Tulsa , Oklahoma ) is an American musical artist and actress .

Life

Kristin Chenoweth was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma and adopted shortly after she was born. She grew up in Broken Arrow together with her brother, the biological son of her adoptive parents . Her musical talent was encouraged at an early age and she took dance and singing lessons. After graduating from high school in 1986, she attended Oklahoma State University in Oklahoma City . There she obtained a bachelor's degree in musical theater and continued her studies up to a master's degree in opera performance .

She was engaged to her colleague Marc Kudisch. The couple separated, however, in 2001. Afterwards, Chenoweth was for some time in a relationship with actor and presenter Jeff Probst.

Kristin Chenoweth made her Broadway debut in the production of Steel Pier in 1997 . She became known to a wide audience in 1999 when she starred in the musical You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown . Her interpretation of Sally earned her both a Tony Award and a Drama Desk Award for Best Supporting Actress.

She gained international fame through her involvement in the original cast of the Broadway production of the musical Wicked - The Witches of Oz alongside Idina Menzel and Joel Gray . Chenoweth has received several awards for her portrayal of the witch G (a) linda .

In 2007 she celebrated success with the musical The Apple Tree , for which she was again nominated for the Drama Desk Award. In 2008 she played Kunigunde in the musical Candide at the English National Opera .

From April 2010 to January 2011 she was on Broadway in New York in the musical Promises, Promises in the role of Fran Kubelik.

Kristin Chenoweth is a classically trained singer. In addition to classical songs and operas, she also successfully interprets pop music and musical pieces. Due to her success on Broadway, the actress received her own television series in 2001. In the partially autobiographical show, Chenoweth embodied her alter ego , the budding actress and singer Kristin Yancey , who works as a secretary to finance her living. The series was discontinued after one season because of the low audience .

In 2002 Kristin Chenoweth made her cinema debut. Since then, she has appeared repeatedly on the big screen in supporting roles. In Love with a Witch , she starred alongside Nicole Kidman , Will Ferrell and Shirley MacLaine in 2005 . A year later she could be seen in the comedies Stranger than Fiction with Maggie Gyllenhaal and Dustin Hoffman , Die Chaoscamper with Robin Williams and The Pink Panther with Steve Martin and Kevin Kline . For the latter two, she was nominated for the Golden Raspberry as worst supporting actress.

This was followed by guest appearances in Frasier , Sesame Street and Alles Betty! . From 2004 to 2006 she starred in the award-winning series The West Wing in the role of Annabeth Schott alongside Stockard Channing , Allison Janney , Martin Sheen and John Spencer . She played the role of Olive Snook in the US series Pushing Daisies and was nominated twice for an Emmy for Best Supporting Actress, and was awarded the Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2009 .

In the television series Glee , she had a total of five guest appearances in the role of April Rhodes between 2009 and 2014.
