Criticism of the heart
Critique of the Heart is Wilhelm Busch's first collection of poems . It was published by Friedrich Bassermann in Heidelberg in 1874 .
After the great success of his picture stories, Wilhelm Busch wanted to show that he is not only a great joker, but also has serious sides to offer. He published a collection of poems which he called the Critique of the Heart , following Immanuel Kant's Critique of Pure Reason .
However, this attempt met with incomprehension from his audience and was initially a failure. It was only after Busch's death, when his nephews instigated the work as a whole, that his volumes of poetry also reached a larger audience.
