history
Probably the first settlement of Rhodt took place during the Roman rule in the 1st to 4th centuries. A first documented historical date is associated with the construction of the Rietburg (Rippburg) from 1200 to 1204. The inhabitants of Rhodt (then Rode ) are also mentioned in the Eußerthal documents. Between about 1300 and 1603 Rhodt belonged to Württemberg and received the nickname under Rietburg , as it could be differentiated from the three Württemberg Rhodts. Even then, wine - predominantly Traminer - was grown in Rhodt .
In 1603 the Margrave Ernst Friedrich von Baden bought Rhodt by swap. The Baden rulers ruled the place until 1801. Wine sales were flourishing and the prices achieved were very good. The trade with Baden made Rhodt relatively rich and stately winegrowers' houses were built. From 1635 to 1752 the local rule was given to the Lords of Zyllnhardt as a fief of the margraves of Baden . After that, the community became part of the margraviate of Baden-Durlach or Baden until the end of the century .
From 1798 to 1814, when the Palatinate was part of the French Republic (until 1804) and then part of the Napoleonic Empire with subsequent recognition in the Luneviller Peace of 1801 , Roth was - as the spelling at the time - incorporated into the canton of Edenkoben and formed its own mairie . In 1815 the place had a total of 1398 inhabitants. In the same year it was added to Austria . Just one year later, the place, like the entire Palatinate, changed to the Kingdom of Bavaria . From 1818 to 1862 the community belonged to the Landau Landau commissioner ; from this the district office of Landau emerged.
From 1939 the place was part of the Landau district in the Palatinate . After the Second World War , Rhodt became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone . During the first Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform changed the place on 7 June 1969 in the newly created district Landau-Bad Bergzabern, in 1978 in South County Wine Trail is renamed . 1972 Rhodt was assigned to the also newly formed community of Edenkoben .
The place was also the winner of the competition Our village should be more beautiful several times .
