history

The two places Gossersweiler and Stein belonged to the Electoral Palatinate until the end of the 18th century . After the Left Bank of the Rhine was taken by French revolutionary troops in 1794, both places were assigned to the canton of Annweiler in the Donnersberg department from 1798 to 1814 and were administered by the Mairie in Schwanheim . Due to the agreements made at the Congress of Vienna held in 1815 , the Palatinate and thus also the communities of Gossersweiler and Stein were initially assigned to Austria . In a state treaty concluded in 1816 , Austria ceded the region to the Kingdom of Bavaria . The now Bavarian canton Annweiler belonged in the newly created Rhine district for the time being to the Zweibrücken district formed from the previous arrondissement and came to the Landau district on August 1, 1816. After the subdivision of the districts into Landkommissariate (1818), the two places belonged to the Landkommissariat Bergzabern , from which the Bergzabern district emerged in 1939 .

In the course of the first administrative reform in Rhineland-Palatinate , Gossersweiler and Stein moved to the newly created Landau-Bad Bergzabern district, which was renamed the Südliche Weinstrasse district in 1978 . On March 1, 1970, the previously independent communities of Gossersweiler and Stein were merged to form the new community of Gossersweiler-Stein. Two years later, the latter was assigned to the community of Annweiler am Trifels .
