Culture Prize of the City of Basel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Culture Prize of the City of Basel is awarded every year to a person, a group or an institution that has made a special contribution to cultural life in Basel . The Basel government determines the winner on the recommendation of an expert jury. The prize is endowed with 20,000 francs.

The prize was awarded for the first time in 1948, at that time still under the name "Art Prize of the City of Basel". The award first took place at irregular intervals, since 1999 annually. The renaming took place in 1995 "to give expression to the comprehensive claim of the award ceremony (honor for services to the cultural life of Basel)."
