The Kungliga Automobilklubben (KAK for short) is a Swedish non-profit organization that protects the interests of motorists. The organization was founded in 1903 as Svenska Automobil Klubben . The current name has been used since 1908. This is often translated in German as the Royal Automobile Club . The headquarters of the organization is in Stockholm.

The first chairman of the association was Count Clarence von Rosen . This was involved in the organization of the country's first car competitions. From 1947 to 1993, Prince Bertil of Sweden was chairman of the association and organized many car competitions and car races as the latter.

Nowadays, the association is particularly committed to road safety among children and young people. In addition, the association creates road maps, tries to counteract environmental problems in connection with car traffic or is committed to solving road problems. He also organizes social activities. Since 2003 the association has published the quarterly magazine Klubbnytt . Before that, the magazine Svensk Motortidning (1907 to 2002) was published by the association. In 1953 the KAK had 16,649 members and employed 148 people.

The Kungliga Automobilklubben is not only Sweden's oldest automobile club, but also one of the founders of the international umbrella organization for automobiles, the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA).

Kungliga Motorbåtsklubben

In 1915 the KAK, the Kungliga Motorbåtsklubben, KMK, founded a Swedish boat club. The club has two ports in Stockholm and currently has around 2000 members with 825 registered boats.
