Kurt Martin (trade unionist)

Kurt Martin (born May 31, 1946 in Düren , North Rhine-Westphalia ) is a German trade unionist .

He was deputy chairman of the public services, transport and traffic union (ÖTV) and was a member of the federal board of the United Services Union (ver.di) from 2001 to October 2007 .

Life

After graduating from school, he completed an administrative apprenticeship in the Birkesdorf district administration from 1960 to 1963 . There he then worked as a clerk. In 1969/70 he completed his military service in the Bundeswehr. In 1971/72 he volunteered for a year at the ÖTV district administration in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Kurt Martin is married and has two children.

Functions in the ÖTV

From 1972 to 1982 Kurt Martin was secretary of the ÖTV district administration in Düren. In 1982 he took over the job of a tariff secretary of the ÖTV district administration North Rhine-Westphalia I. In 1991 he was elected deputy chairman of the ÖTV district North Rhine-Westphalia I. In 2000 he became chairman of the ÖTV district of North Rhine-Westphalia I and deputy chairman of the ÖTV trade union.

Functions in ver.di

In 2001 Kurt Martin was elected a member of the federal executive committee of the United Service Union. There he was responsible for collective bargaining policy in the public service. He was the federal department head of the municipal department (department 7). At the same time he was head of department 13 in the ver.di federal executive board. In addition to the municipalities department and the public service collective bargaining secretariat, he was also responsible for the federal workers' secretariat. In October 2003 the ver.di federal congress in Berlin elected him again to the ver.di federal executive board with 73.1 percent of the delegate votes. He was no longer a candidate for the 2007 Federal Congress.
