occupation

Land of Plenty is a 2004 film directed by Wim Wenders based on a story by Scott Derrickson .

action

Lana comes to the United States and is looking for her uncle Paul, a Vietnam War veteran, in Los Angeles . He sees terrorists in numerous foreign-looking fellow citizens and observes them with his converted junk bus. Lana, on the other hand, is committed to helping the homeless. When a Pakistani is shot, Paul tries to find the motive and is able to find the brother together with Lana. The suspicion of a conspiracy turned out to be false, since drugged kids turn out to be the perpetrators.

background

  • The film is digital and mainly shot with a handheld camera. This minimized the production time.
  • Gloria Stuart , who began her film career in the early 1930s and became known as Old Rose in Titanic (1997), starred in her final film role in a minor supporting role as Old Lady .

criticism

“Wim Wenders takes a critical and at the same time tender look at a torn America full of fear and poverty, a country that is reorienting itself after September 11, 2001. His subtle road movie, photographed in appropriately brittle images, is full of quiet sadness over the loss of values, the change from justice to self-righteousness, the lostness of people in a complex system. "

Awards and nominations

Land of Plenty received the Unesco Prize at the 2004 Venice Film Festival .
