The Oppenheim district was a district in the Grand Duchy of Hesse and in the People's State of Hesse in the province of Rheinhessen . The district was dissolved on November 1, 1938 and essentially divided between the districts of Mainz and Alzey . The former district area is now in the districts of Alzey-Worms and Mainz-Bingen in Rhineland-Palatinate .

history

As a result of the March Revolution in 1848, the provinces, the counties and the district councils of the Grand Duchy were abolished on July 31, 1848 and replaced by administrative districts. The administrative district of Mainz emerged from the districts of Alzey, Bingen , Mainz and Worms and the city of Mainz . In 1850 the administrative district of Worms was created, which consisted of the former districts of Alzey and Worms.

After the government districts were dissolved on May 12, 1852, Rheinhessen was now divided into five districts, with the districts of Alzey, Bingen, Mainz and Worms forming the district of Oppenheim from the area of ​​the peace courts districts of Oppenheim and Wörrstadt . The district structure of the Grand Duchy created at that time lasted for more than six decades.

After the dissolution of the provincial and district assemblies in what was now the People's State of Hesse in 1936 and the abolition of the three provinces of Starkenburg, Upper Hesse and Rheinhessen in 1937, a radical regional reform was carried out in Hesse on November 1, 1938, within the framework of the District of Oppenheim was dissolved:

• The communities Bodenheim , Dalheim , Dexheim , Dienheim , Dolgesheim , Eimsheim , Friesenheim , Guntersblum , Hahnheim , Hillesheim , Köngernheim , Lörzweiler , Ludwigshöhe , Mommenheim , Nackenheim , Nierstein , Oppenheim , Schwabsburg , Selzen , Undenheim , Wald-Uelversheim , Weinolsheim and Wintersheim came to the district of Mainz .
• The municipality of Ober-Hilbersheim came to the district of Bingen .
