Landon Carter Haynes

Landon Carter Haynes (born December 2, 1816 in Elizabethton , Carter County , Tennessee , † February 17, 1875 in Memphis , Tennessee) was an American politician .

Haynes first moved to the Tennessee General Assembly in 1847 and became a member of the State Senate . From 1849 to 1851 he then sat as a member of the House of Representatives from Tennessee ; During this time he also acted as speaker of this parliamentary chamber. After the outbreak of civil war , he served from 1862 to 1865 as a senator in the first and second Confederate Congresses .

After his death in 1875 he was buried in Elmwood Cemetery . However, he was reburied in Jackson Cemetery in 1902 . He was an uncle of Nathaniel Edwin Harris , who served as governor of Georgia from 1915 to 1917 .
