Laura Rudas [ ˈrudɒʃ ] (born March 10, 1981 in Vienna ) is a former Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and was a member of the Austrian National Council from January 2007 to March 2014 and from November 2008 to February 2014 Federal Managing Director of the SPÖ.

biography

After primary school in Vienna, Laura Rudas attended an economics high school, where she graduated in 1999 . She then studied political science at the University of Vienna and in 2008 she sponsored her diploma thesis "Social Selection in the Austrian School System" .

In 2014–15, Rudas completed a one-year course ( MSx , Master of Science in Management for Experienced Leaders) in the Sloan Fellows program at Stanford University . In September 2015, she then took up a position as business development at the American data mining company Palantir Technologies in Palo Alto , which is known for its close cooperation with US security authorities and intelligence services.

Political career

After graduating from high school in 1999, Rudas began to get involved in the Vienna SPÖ district organization Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus and to set up the SPÖ district youth group. From 2002 to 2005 she was chairwoman of the Socialist Youth Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus. In addition, she has several functions at the district level, including in the district women's committee and as a member of the district committee for children's friends .

In 2003 she was a district councilor in Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus. From 2004 to 2007 Rudas was the youngest member of the Viennese state parliament and councilor . On January 16, 2007, she came to the National Council as a member of the mandate of Doris Bures , who moved to the government as Minister for Women after the 2006 National Council election . From September 2007 to November 2008 she was child and youth spokeswoman for the SPÖ. After the National Council election in 2008 , she took over the federal management of the SPÖ on November 24, 2008 together with Günther Kräuter . In December 2013, after the 2013 National Council election , she succeeded Elmar Mayer in the role of education spokeswoman for the SPÖ.

On February 25, 2014, she announced that she would retire from all political offices and functions in order to pursue her studies at Stanford University. She did not plan to return to politics afterwards.

criticism

According to information director Elmar Oberhauser , Laura Rudas is said to have suggested that he appoint Fritz Dittlbacher, who is close to the SPÖ, as future TV editor-in-chief of ORF . Laura Rudas herself denies such influence. In a series of skits in the ORF cabaret series Wir Staatskünstler , alleged attempts by Rudas and Niko Pelinka to influence the public radio program were parodied. Rudas was played by the actress Claudia Kottal .

family

Laura Rudas is the daughter of the Austrian psychiatrist and founder of the Viennese psychiatry reform Stephan Rudas and niece of the former SPÖ federal manager Andreas Rudas .

Private life

Laura Rudas has been in a relationship with Internet entrepreneur Markus Wagner since the beginning of 2012, and in November 2015 the couple had a daughter.
