2nd wave rocks

LeFloid (born October 1, 1987 in East Berlin ; bourgeois Florian Diedrich née Mundt ) is a German web video producer and operator of various YouTube channels. His YouTube series LeFloid vs. The World was nominated for the 55th Grimme Prize 2019 in the Children & Youth category.

Life

Florian Diedrich attended the European School in Storkow , which he graduated from high school in 2008 . He then studied psychology and rehabilitation education at the Berlin Humboldt University , specializing in children and adolescents as well as language disorders. In addition to his studies, he was involved as a consultant for young people suffering from depression and mental problems.

In addition to his scars, which were caused by several incorrect operations, his tattoos also became a trademark, including the date of an accident as a teenager, his own date of birth and that of his parents, an owl with a broken wing, as a symbol of the unsuccessful operations on Diedrichs now largely unfeeling right hand, as well as the Latin phrase in medias res .

Diedrich is married and has dizygoti twins. The children were born with the expected medical complications in the 26th week of pregnancy ; his daughter weighed less than 600 grams. She survived without a permanent handicap, but still required medical and physiotherapeutic care for a long time. However, it turned out that his son has hemiparesis - paralysis of one side of the body.

YouTube channels

LeFloid 2015

The YouTube channels LeFloid, FlipFloid and DoktorFroid are managed together with the Studio71 network belonging to the ProSiebenSat.1 group . Until 2014, LeFloid produced in cooperation with the multi-channel network Mediakraft .

LeFloid

The main channel LeFloid is one of the most subscribed channels in Germany . He is shaped by the LeNews series , in which Diedrich comments on current topics from the media. It is mostly about headlines , sensations and bizarre things from the fields of school, bullying, games, crime, politics or sport, which appeal to young people in particular and which caused a media sensation. There are also serious issues, critical disputes and appeals , but according to Diedrich the actual purpose of the videos is entertainment, which clearly distinguishes LeNews from traditional news programs , which also leads to criticism. In the long history of the LeNews format , the frequency and publication days have changed. As of June 2017, videos appear twice a week, namely on Mondays and Thursdays.

In addition, there was a series of short videos about personal experiences and opinions that deviated from the typical LeNews scheme under the title The world in my head . In the ACTION & Short Films section , you can find more complex, often action-heavy short film projects, which are often created in collaboration with other YouTubers .

On July 11, 2015, he conducted a highly acclaimed interview with Chancellor Angela Merkel , in which he asked questions from the YouTube community that he had previously collected under the hashtag #NetzFrachtMerkel . The interview was published on July 13, 2015 on his channel LeFloid . The reviews were mixed, with his "unusually good" interview style often being discussed, which Merkel accommodated, but also the growing importance of YouTube for politics.

FlipFloid

Diedrich operates a second channel called FlipFloid , on which several vlogs and projects are uploaded. There are also guest appearances by other YouTubers, Let's Plays , in which computer or video games are played and presented, as well as short films together. During a stay in Las Vegas, the channel was revived on October 14, 2016. The channel has approximately 440,000 subscribers and over 45 million views. (As of February 22, 2020)

DoctorFroid

Since December 29, 2012, Diedrich has been running the DoktorFroid channel together with Max Krüger (alias Frodoapparat ) , which mainly revolves around computer games . These are mainly served by the formats RandomGameFacts , i.e. a series of funny or bizarre additional information about more or less well-known computer games, and NerdRanking , i.e. Top X lists. DoktorFroid has over 700,000 subscribers and over 220 million views. (As of February 22, 2020)

In addition, a video from the series Nerdscope (formerly 1080NerdScope), which made its debut for SWR on August 1, 2015, is uploaded every Saturday . The Meimberg production is always first published on the channel, but later also on SWR and deals with topics related to gaming and new media. On average, the outputs reach 200,000 to 300,000 views. The second season of the series has been paused since September 30, 2017.

DoktorFroid Gamebang

The spin-off DoktorFroid Gamebang for DoktorFroid has existed since November 25, 2014 . Let's Plays and live stream recordings that were made on Twitch are subsequently uploaded to the channel. The video upload on this channel was stopped for the time being in mid-2016, as the Twitch recordings are to be uploaded to the DoktorFroid main channel in the future.

Collaboration on other channels

He also worked on the launch of the channels Was Geht Ab !? and Techscalibur with. In What's up !? Several videos were uploaded daily, in which contributors present current news and comment on specific sections. On the Techscalibur channel , news about films, video games, series and the like were discussed. After the familiar faces left the channels, the success of the channels decreased, so they were discontinued in 2015.

Loot for the world

On November 14, 2014, LeFloid started a live stream together with other YouTubers on the live streaming portal Twitch . There were u. a. Frodoapparat , the Space Frogs , Marti Fischer , RobBubble , mapamundi , the Cubirds and Fewjar . With the help of the community should via PayPal donations for the three non-profit organizations wünschdirwas e. V. , the Hänsel + Gretel Foundation and the Fatigatio e. V. collected. The players donated 1% of the sum themselves, which was incurred as fees for payment transactions. The event was streamed via a total of three Twitch channels and the course of the fundraising campaign was documented on the DoktorFroid channel . For "health reasons", the stream originally planned for 48 hours was ended after 30 hours. During these 30 hours, the community donated over 31,500 euros. At the end of the stream, LeFloid spoke out in favor of repeating the action annually.

On November 20, 2015, the sequel Loot for World 2 started . During the 48-hour stream, 50,000 euros in donations were collected, which increased by a donation from the Asus company by 7,500 euros and the sale of T-shirts by a further 16,000 euros to over 76,000 euros. According to the company, all of the money went to the organizations Deutscher Tierschutzbund , Aktion Deutschland Hilft and Wünschdirwas e. V. benefit.

From November 18 to 20, 2016 the 3rd edition took place with Loot für die Welt 3 . The 48 hour live stream was broadcast on the Twitch channels DoktorFroid and SpaceFrogsGaming . At the same time, the stream was broadcast for the first time on the LeFloid and Space Frogs YouTube channels . A different entertainment program was usually offered on the respective channels. During the live stream, more than 85,000 euros in donations and about 85,000 euros were raised through T-shirt sales. The total donation amounted to more than 170,000 euros. Thus, Loot made more money for Welt 3 than its two predecessors together. The proceeds went in equal parts to the non-profit organizations Vier Pfoten , the Tafeln in Deutschland and Kinderhilfe e. V.

Loot for World 4 took place from November 3rd to 5th, 2017. Almost 120,000 euros were donated by viewers. T-shirt sales and a donation from Microsoft amounting to 40,000 euros resulted in a total donation of around 235,000 euros. The exact amount has not yet been determined. The donations go in equal parts to the non-profit organizations Tierheim Berlin , SOS-Kinderdorf and, as in the previous year, to the food banks in Germany .

Loot for World 5 was held from November 9th to 11th, 2018. Almost 173,000 euros were donated directly by the viewers during the stream. The additional sale of merchandise items resulted in a total donation of around 239,000 euros. The donations went in equal parts to the non-profit organizations Deutsches Kinderhilfswerk , Tierheim Berlin and One Earth - One Ocean.

Loot for the world 6 was held from November 8th to 9th, 2019. During the stream, about 161,000 euros were donated directly by viewers. A total of approx. 261,000 euros was raised with merch sales. The donations went in equal parts to the organizations Evas Halt, Green Forest Fund and Tierheim Berlin .

criticism

LeFloid has been criticized several times for spreading fake news. On February 19, 2015, he posted a video titled Putin Threatening Evidence of the US Government's 9/11 Conspiracy! . In this he claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin had announced that he would shortly publish evidence that the US government was responsible for the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 . In fact, Putin never made such a statement. LeFloid had taken the allegations from conspiracy websites. On February 26, 2015, LeFloid apologized for the mistake. However, the video is still online.

On May 5, 2015, Deef Pirmasens and Christian Schiffer criticized LeFloid in a lecture on the subject of hoax campaigns at re: publica 2015. They referred to a LeFloids video from September 4, 2014. In this video, LeFloid had news about a chemical changed nail polish, but misrepresented it and expanded it with apparently made-up claims. This turned the news into a completely different story, which he used as evidence to serve prejudices.

On May 18, 2015, LeFloid presented several years old news about the Sauerland Group as news in a video .

On June 21, 2017, LeFloid presented a post according to which a 128-year-old Argentinean claims to be Adolf Hitler . The man would have exceeded the highest proven age of a person by far. The alleged photo of the man, however, shows Francis Morris of Quarmby , a 103-year-old Yorkshire man who never made such a statement.
