Career

Fisher graduated from Oberlin College and later at the Law School of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland . Politically he was active for the first time as a member of the House of Representatives from Ohio , to which he belonged between 1981 and 1982; immediately afterwards he became a state senator , which he remained until 1990.

In 1991, Lee Fisher was elected Attorney General (a type of attorney general and attorney general) of Ohio . He held this post until 1995; when attempting re-election, he was defeated by Republican Betty Montgomery . In the presidential election in 1992 he was one of the representatives of Ohio in the Electoral College , which elected Bill Clinton as the new US president.

In 1998, Fisher ran for the office of governor of Ohio, but was defeated by Republican Bob Taft by more than five percentage points . As a result, he initially withdrew from politics. When Taft was no longer allowed to run after his second term in office in 2006, it was initially speculated that Fisher might run again for the highest office in the state. Ultimately, he took over as running mate of the Democratic candidate Ted Strickland , after whose clear victory over Republican Ken Blackwell, he took over the post of lieutenant governor . He also headed the Department of Development in the Ohio state government .

Fisher ran in November 2010 to succeed the no longer running US Senator George Voinovich of the Republican Party. His opponent, Republican Rob Portman , ultimately prevailed by a clear margin and entered Congress in January 2011 . Shortly thereafter, Lee Fisher handed the office of lieutenant governor to Republican Mary Taylor .
