Lee Miller Emile Morin (born September 9, 1952 in Manchester , New Hampshire , USA ) is a former American astronaut .

education

Morin received a BA in Mathematics and Electrical Engineering from the University of New Hampshire in 1974 and a Masters in Biochemistry from New York University in 1978 . He also received a doctorate in medicine from New York University in 1981 and a doctorate in microbiology in 1982 . In 1988 he received a Masters in Health Sciences from the University of Alabama at Birmingham .

From 1974 Morin worked at the MIT Media Lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology . After resuming his studies, Morin worked at the Bronx Municipal Hospital Center and Montefiore Hospital Medical Center in New York City .

In 1983 he entered active service in the US Navy. He was a medical officer on the submarine USS Henry M. Jackson for two years before he was trained as an aviation surgeon in Pensacola ( Florida ) from 1985 . Shortly after his departure, he was drafted again for a mission in Bahrain because of the second Gulf War in August 1990 . From 1992 to 1996 he worked again in Pensacola at the Naval Aerospace and Operational Medical Institute (NAOMI).

Astronaut activity

In April 1996, Morin was selected by NASA as an astronaut aspirant and was subsequently trained as a mission specialist at the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center . After various tasks in the astronaut's office, he occasionally took on a year-long position at the US State Department . He is currently working again in the astronauts office on the development of the cockpit for the new Orion spaceship .

STS-110

On April 8, 2002, Morin flew to the International Space Station (ISS) on the space shuttle Atlantis . The lattice structure element S0 and a rail car were brought to the ISS. The sledge known as the “Mobile Transporter” uses the rail system laid on the grid elements. Together with his colleague Jerry Ross , Morin carried out two of the four space exits (EVA) on this mission.

Lee Morin is married with two children.
