Lemland is a municipality in the autonomous Finnish province ( Finnish : Lääni ) Åland . It is located in the south of Åland's main island, Fasta Åland, east of the capital Mariehamn and is almost completely surrounded by water. In the northwest, Lemland borders on the municipality of Jomala through the Lemström Canal and in the east on the municipality of Lumparland through the Lumpar Sound .

Lemland has 2033 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018) and a land area of 113.68 square kilometers. The population density is 17.9 people per square kilometer of land. As in all of Åland, Swedish is the official language.

The church of Lemland was built in the late 13th century and one of the oldest in Finland. In the village of Lemböte there is a ruin of a chapel from the early 16th century. The name of the community is derived from a homestead (old Swedish land ) and probably contains the old Swedish word limr , "branch, limb", which Lemland's trap probably refers to the various inlets that penetrate deep into the island's interior.

There is full employment in the municipality , the unemployment rate was officially recorded in January 2007 at 1.6 percent.
