history

Lengefeld Church
Manor house of the former moated castle

The area of today's Lengefeld was probably settled as early as the 8th century, which is indicated by the ring wall above the village , the Hünenkeller . In 1036 Lengefeld was first mentioned as Lenkevelde as the Vorwerk of the Paderborn manor in Korbach. The Lords of Lengefeld were first mentioned in a document in 1228. It is not certain whether they built the later moated castle. The Romanesque hall church in the center of the village was built around 1200.

As part of the regional reform in Hesse , the municipality of Lengefeld voluntarily became a district of Korbach on July 1, 1970. In 2011 the place celebrates its 975th anniversary.

Ringwall Hünenkeller

From the oval Carolingian - Ottonian hill fort , an elongated moat and a wall remnant at the southern entrance have been preserved on the eastern side. In addition, there was a natural cave until recently, in which, according to a folk legend , originally giant men lived and made the area unsafe, which is where the name of the complex comes from.

Moated castle

Below the Hünenkeller there is a courtyard in place of a water castle first mentioned in 1228 . The former moats are now completely filled. In the manor house , not visible from the outside, the stump of a square residential tower is hidden, which probably dates from the 14th / 15th centuries. Century. It has a wall thickness of around two meters, was removed down to three floors in the 17th century and is similar in appearance to that of Nordenbeck Castle . The building itself has been rebuilt and renewed several times. At the beginning of the 19th century it received a half-timbered extension .
