The Liepona ( Russian Лепона Lepona , German  Lepone ) is a 35 km long river that forms the border between Lithuania in the east and the Russian Oblast Kaliningrad in the west over a length of 22.9 km . It rises about 20 km north of Lake Wystiter and flows north until it flows into the Širvinta just before its confluence with the Šešupė .

The Lepone has served as a border water since the earliest Middle Ages, at that time between the Teutonic Order in the west and Lithuania in the east.

The name is derived from the Lithuanian liepa "linden tree". In addition, the Russian name is a translation.
