description

Lilium brevistylum is a perennial, herbaceous plant and reaches a height of between 20 and 35 centimeters. The purple onion is elongated-round with a diameter between 1.5 and 2 centimeters, the scales are lanceolate, between 2 and 3 centimeters long and 5 to 7 millimeters wide. The stem is hairless, the linear or narrowly lanceolate leaves are distributed and are between 3 and 5 centimeters long and 2 to 5 millimeters wide.

In June the species blooms with nodding, bell-shaped single flowers. The elliptical-lanceolate, 2 to 2.2 centimeters long and 5 to 8 millimeters wide bracts are yellow, tinged with pale purple and mottled purple in the further course. The outer bracts are slightly narrower than the inner ones.

The short stamens are curved, the hairless stamens 8 to 10 millimeters, the anthers 4 to 5 millimeters long. The ovary is around 1 centimeter long and 4 millimeters wide, the stylus is characteristically short with a length of only one millimeter and was the inspiration for the epithet of the species ( brevistylum = "short-handled").
