Lillebæltsbroen (also Den gamle Lillebæltsbro ) is a combined road and rail bridge over the Little Belt near Middelfart , Denmark , which was put into operation on May 14, 1935 and connects the Jutland peninsula with Funen .
Technical specifications
The bridge has a total length of 1178 meters. It consists of the 825 m long river bridge and two approach bridges. The river bridge is a steel truss construction with five spans of lengths 137.5 m, 165 m, 220 m, 165 m and 137.5 m. The maximum construction height in the middle of the bridge is 24 m, with a clear height of 33 m above the water. The main bridge is a tanner girder bridge , which is difficult to see. The approach bridges consist of reinforced concrete arches with widths of 36 m and an elevated roadway. There are five arches on the north bank and three on the south bank.
Lillebæltsbroen is used as a motif on the 100 kroner banknotes . The banknote, drawn by the artist Karin Birgitte Lund, is part of a series published from 2009 to 2011 that, among other things, has Danish bridges as a theme.
Since May 2015, groups of visitors have been able to go on a so-called bridge walking under professional guidance . The inspection takes place 20 m above the road, about 60 m above sea level.
