Linda Maria Baros

Linda Maria Baros (born August 6, 1981 in Bucharest ) is a Romanian poet , translator and essayist who writes in both French and Romanian . She has lived in Paris for many years . She was awarded the Prix ​​Guillaume Apollinaire in 2007 . French literary criticism considers her to be one of the voices that has come into its own today and an important young poet of the 21st century.

life and work

Baros attended the Bucharest Central School and the Paris Victor-Duruy grammar school . She completed her studies at the Paris- Sorbonne University . She holds a PhD in comparative literature from both Paris-Sorbonne University and Bucharest University. In 2011 she became Secretary General of the College of Comparative Literature in Paris.

In 1988 she made her debut with a poem in a Romanian literary magazine. Starting in 1998, she published her first translations, which received awards in both France and Romania. Her first volume of poetry was published in 2001. A year later she became the youngest member of the Romanian Writers' Union.

In Paris she began to write in French. The first two volumes of poetry - which were published in 2004 and 2006 - were awarded the Prize for Poetic Vocation and the Prix ​​Apollinaire . In Romania she tried to support her generation: she founded the literary magazine VERSUs / m (since 2005). Subsequently, in order to promote poetry in general, she initiated and organized the festival Primavara poetilor ( The Poet's Spring ) in 55 cities at the same time , The Poetarium Library brought together 150 poets and The ZOOM Library , which 140 of the authors who translated and published it has, contains.

She has been an editor at a French publisher in Paris since 2005. In addition, she is the deputy secretary of the Association of Literary Translators of Romanian Literature and, since 2009, the deputy general secretary of the La Nouvelle Pléiade Association (based on La Pléiade ). Among other things, she was also the cultural ambassador of Romania for the European cultural season (Paris, 2008). In Paris, too, she was responsible for the poetry department and as webmaster (2009-2010). She was also elected for life on the French Guillaume Apollinaire poetry jury .

Since May 2013 she has been the editor of the English-French La traductière (Paris) and a member of the Mallarmé Academy (France).
