Lisa's Pony (Original Title: Lisa's Pony ) is the eighth episode of the third season of the American animated series The Simpsons . For this episode, Dan Castellaneta , the English voice actor for Homer Simpson and several other characters, won the Primetime Emmy Award in the Outstanding Voice-Over Performance category .

action

Daughter Lisa is attending a talent night at school when she realizes before the performance that she needs a new sheet for her saxophone. Over the phone she asks her father Homer to get it quickly. However, the music store is next to Homer's local pub, so he decides to have another beer before the errand. After that, however, the shop has already closed. Homer goes into the bar again, dejected, and complains to another guest that "the idiot from the music store" closed the shop too early. He now introduces himself as the owner of the shop. By pleading and pleading, Homer can get him to open the shop again and sell him the paper. Meanwhile, however, Lisa's performance has already begun. Without a new saxophone reed, it hardly hits a note. When Homer arrives with the saxophone reed, he can only watch and see how Lisa is laughed at because of his fault.

Lisa is angry and disappointed because of the embarrassment. Homer fails at first to get her to forgive him. Finally he decides to buy her a pony to grant her dearest wish so that she will forgive him. To finance it, he takes out a loan of $ 5,000. Lisa is enthusiastic about the pony and forgives him. Homer didn't count on the ancillary costs, however: the stable space for the pony costs $ 530 a month. Homer has to take a second job at Kwik-E-Mart. Lisa spends a lot of time with the pony and doesn't notice that Homer is working day and night; however, he is making mistakes more and more often because of fatigue.

Eventually, Mother Marge is so worried about Homer that she tells her daughter that Homer has had two jobs for some time just to finance the pony. Lisa watches her father doing his second job and is shocked. She decides to return the pony because an unreliable father is more important to her than a pony.

credentials

At the beginning of the episode, Homer dreams his own version of the scene “The Dawn of Man” from the 1968 film 2001: A Space Odyssey , in which Homer is portrayed as a monkey. Also in a scene when Lisa wakes up there is a reference to the movie The Godfather , as she sees the head of the pony lying in her bed. After Homer hurt Lisa's feelings in the course of the episode, he looks at old recordings of the family. Among them is a video in which Homer watches the movie Fantasy Island while Lisa takes her first steps and he ignores her.
