Lisburn ( Irish Lios na gCearrbhach ) is the third largest city in Northern Ireland after Belfast and Derry and is located on the Lagan .
The city is located partly in historic County Antrim , partly in historic County Down , about 20 km south of Belfast, and has a population of about 72,000. The city was the 2002 City , charged after previously the name Town led. It was the administrative seat of the district of the same name , which in 2015 became part of the Lisburn and Castlereagh district. Lisburn is now the administrative seat of the Lisburn and Castlereagh district.
Lisburn is known for its linen museum, which shows the history of the linen industry , which is important for Northern Ireland : Irish Linen Center, The Island, in the center of Lisburn, rebuilt in 2001.
There is a major hospital, the Lagan Valley Hospital .
The headquarters of the British Forces in Northern Ireland is at Thiepval Barracks . The headquarters of the barracked police for the Belfast region is also in Lisburn.

Negotiations between Benjamin Franklin and Lord Hillsborough took place in the Hillsborough district during the American Revolutionary War .
In July and August 1920, Protestant residents attacked their Catholic neighbors and burned 40 Catholic family homes. As a result, most of the more than 1,000 Catholic citizens fled Lisburn.

The six -time IFA Premiership champion and 12-time Irish Cup winner Lisburn Distillery comes from Lisburn . The club's stadium, New Grosvenor Stadium, is located in a small suburb of the city.
