history

From 1850 were in the Austrian half of the Empire of Austria , the great old Bohemian circles by political districts replaced (prefectures), each of one or more jurisdictions (for the judiciary was). The final formation of the political districts ( Czech politický okres ) took place in 1868 in the course of the separation of the political from the judicial administration by an imperial law.

In 1868 there were 89 political districts in the crown land of Bohemia. Their number increased through the division of districts to a total of 104 political districts and the two statutory cities of Prague and Reichenberg .

This district division was in force in Bohemia, apart from minor changes, until 1938, i.e. also in the First Czechoslovak Republic .

At the head of each district was a district captain , comparable to today's district administrator in Germany.
