The district town of Düren only granted a few people honorary citizenship.

Franz Anton Vaßen

Franz Anton Vaßen (born February 2, 1799 in Aldenhoven , † February 9, 1891 in Düren) was dean in Düren. On the occasion of his 60th jubilee as a priest, the city council decided on August 25, 1882 to make him the first honorary citizen of the city.

Emmerich Stürtz

Emmerich Stürtz (born September 28, 1811 in Aachen , † February 1, 1898 in Düren) was District Administrator of the Düren District and a Privy Councilor. The city council decided on August 11, 1885, on the occasion of his 50th anniversary in the Prussian civil service, to appoint him a second honorary citizen.

Otto von Bismarck

Otto Eduard Leopold von Bismarck-Schönhausen (born April 1, 1815 in Schönhausen ; † July 30, 1898 in Friedrichsruh near Hamburg ) was made an honorary citizen by a council resolution of March 21, 1895.

Paul von Hindenburg

Paul Ludwig Hans Anton von Beneckendorff and von Hindenburg (born October 2, 1847 in Posen , † August 2, 1934 at Gut Neudeck , West Prussia ) was a Prussian field marshal and the second Reich President of the Weimar Republic . On the occasion of his 70th birthday, he was made an honorary citizen by a council resolution of December 2, 1917.

August Klotz

Christian August Klotz (born October 6, 1857 in Burg (near Magdeburg) , † December 28, 1925 in Hanover ) was Lord Mayor from 1894 to 1921. He was made an honorary citizen by resolution of the city council on July 7, 1921.

Josef Schregel

Hubert Heinrich Emanuel Josef Schregel (born March 13, 1865 in Jülich , † December 24, 1946 in Neumagen-Dhron on the Moselle ) was a local poet. He was made an honorary citizen by a council resolution of April 29, 1930 on the occasion of his 65th birthday.

Heinrich Spies

Heinrich Spies (born May 11, 1890 in Bad Berleburg ; † July 6, 1961 in Bad Kissingen ) was Lord Mayor of Düren from 1952 to 1961. By resolution of the city council of June 13, 1961 he was made an honorary citizen.

Josef Vosen

Josef Vosen (born July 23, 1943 in Berlin ; † August 21, 2012 in Greece ) was a. a. Member of the Bundestag and honorary mayor of Düren from 1984 to 1998. In 1999 he held the office full-time. The city council decided on December 7, 2011 to give him honorary citizenship. The award ceremony took place on March 16, 2012.
