List of honorary citizens of Rostock
The honorary citizenship is the highest appreciation of the Hanseatic city of Rostock . Since 1816, 21 people have been honored with it, three of them after 1990. Every citizen who has lived in Rostock for a long time and has made lasting contributions to the city can be granted honorary citizenship. The people to be honored can be proposed by any citizen to the President of Rostock's citizenship. The citizenship then decides publicly. The name of the honorary citizen is then entered in the Hanseatic city's book of honor. Honorary citizenship can be revoked at any time due to improper behavior. So were Adolf Hitler , Friedrich Hildebrandt , Hermann Schuldt , John Warnke , Karl Mewis and Paul von Hindenburg appointed honorary citizens, where the ceremony was again denied.
