List of show caves in Austria
The list of show caves in Austria contains all show caves in Austria that the Association of Austrian Cave Researchers (VÖH) maintains as show caves. A show cave is a natural, subterranean cavity that has been expanded for visitors, can be accessed on paths and stairs and is equipped with lighting. Show caves cost an entrance fee and have regular opening times, mostly with regular tours of 30 to 45 minutes. Most of the caves are electrically lit, a small part is lit with carbide lamps. The Kraushöhle in Styria was the first show cave in the world to receive electrical lighting in 1883.
There are a total of 31 show caves in Austria (as of 2016). The show cave with the most visitors is the Eisriesenwelt with around 150,000, followed by the Dachstein Giant Ice Cave with around 100,000 visitors a year. The Lurgrotte is counted twice in the spring, but here summarized as one cave.
