The list of the peoples of Ethiopia gives an overview of the numerous ethnic groups living in Ethiopia.

Due to different definitions of the term ethnicity and the dynamic population development of Ethiopia, there are partly deviating statistics in the literature. Nevertheless, this list should give a qualitative picture of the population composition.

The source for the classification and the number of members is the data from the 1994 census . The second number in brackets is the data from 1986 for comparison. Eritrea's split in 1993 must be taken into account . General information on the region ( west , south, etc.) ) relate to the location within Ethiopia, relative to Addis Ababa . The administrative structure including the names of the administrative units was made on the basis of the ethnic groups. In addition to the two main religions, Christianity and Islam , as well as a small Jewish community, in Ethiopia currents and practices of the original African religions have been preserved in a great variety , which are traditionally summarized here under the term . Their followers make up about 12% of the population.
