history
The Republic of Lithuania, which existed as an independent state between 1918 and 1940, had an embassy at Kurfürstenstrasse 134 in the then Reich capital Berlin from 1922. The first extraordinary envoy and plenipotentiary minister (ambassador) was Vaclovas Sidzikauskas . During the period of the existence of the Soviet Union and after the incorporation of Lithuania into this union, between 1940 and 1990, the diplomats of this state performed all relevant tasks for the individual Union republics . The Soviet embassy was in East Berlin on Unter den Linden .
When Lithuania gained independence in March 1990 and the FRG recognized the country under international law, both sides agreed to set up embassies in their respective capitals. Until 1991, the Lithuanian embassy in Bonn was located at Argelanderstraße 108a in the Südstadt district . After the government moved to Berlin , the diplomats found a renovated monument in Berlin-Mitte and had it furnished for their purposes. The move from Bonn to Berlin took place in 2000.
