The Afghan Embassy in Berlin (officially: Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan ) is the headquarters of the Afghan diplomatic mission in Germany. The position of ambassador is currently vacant; since December 14, 2016, the message of Chargé d' affaires a. i. Abdul J. Ariyaee headed.

The embassy is located in a country house at Taunusstraße  3 in the Berlin district of Grunewald in the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district . The embassy site borders on Kronberger Strasse  5 on the other side , where the consulate belonging to the embassy is located.

In Bonn and in Grünwald , Upper Bavaria, there are consulates general that are organized independently of the consular department of the embassy, ​​some of which arose from the former seat of the embassy.

Contacts between German companies and Afghan rulers had already existed since 1898, but the two countries did not agree diplomatic relations until 1922. Before 1945, the embassy was located in the north of Berlin-Tiergarten (from which the Hansaviertel was later separated), Lessingstrasse 9; The Minister Envoy and Plenipotentiary was Chulam Siddiq Khan. The German consul in Kabul was Grobba.

In 1973 the GDR established diplomatic relations with Afghanistan. The embassy was located at Otto-Grotewohl-Strasse 3a (now: Wilhelmstrasse 65) in Berlin-Mitte .

The building used by the Afghan Republic in the 21st century due to German reunification and the move of the federal government to Berlin was built between 1905 and 1907 according to plans and under the direction of the architect Karl Eduard Bangert. It has been a listed building since the 1980s .
