Liurai ( Suco Liurai , Suku Liurai ) is an East Timorese Suco in the Aileu Administrative Office ( Aileu Municipality ).

Before the 2015 territorial reform, Liurai had an area of ​​10.33 km². Now there are 51.88 km². The Suco Liurai is located in the southwest of the administrative office of Aileu. To the northwest lie the Sucos Hoholau and Seloi Craic , north of the Suco Seloi Malere and to the east the Sucos Fahiria , Bandudato , Lahae and Fatubossa . In the southeast, Liurai borders on the Maubisse administrative office with its Suco Liurai belonging to the municipality of Ainaro and in the southwest on the Letefoho administrative office with its sucos Eraulo and Ducurai, belonging to the municipality of Ermera . The Ormoi river has its source in the border area with Fatubossa and then flows off to the east. The Kuralalan rises in the north-west of Liurai and flows into the Rio Liurai in the north . Together with the Malubui , which rises in the southwest , the Liurai then forms the Manolane , which then leaves the Suco in the northeast.

In the northeast, the city of Aileu extends into the Suco Liurai. A country road leads past it, leading to Dili in the north and Maubisse and Betano in the south. The largest settlement in Suco lies along the Manolane: Banderahun ( Bandeira Hun , Bandeira ). On the Kuralalan tributary lies the village of Maurusa, which has a namesake a little further east on the border with Hoholau. In the center of Sucos is the place Raimanso ( Raimaso ), in the west Fatulai and in the east Rairema . To the south lie the villages of Fatubessi ( Fatubesi ) and Quirilelo ( Quirlelo , Kirilelo ). There are primary schools in Banderahun, Maurusa (West) and Rairema. Banderahun has a police station, Maurusa (West) has a medical station and a preschool in Quirilelo and Fatulai.

In the Suco there are the eight Aldeias Banderahun , Coulaudo , Fatubessi , Fatulmau , Laclo , Quirilelo , Raimanso and Rairema .

Residents

The Suco has 4122 inhabitants (2015), of which 2141 are men and 1981 women. The population density is 79.5 inhabitants / km². There are 688 households in the Suco. Over 49% of the population name Tetum Prasa as their mother tongue, just a little less Mambai . Small minorities speak Galoli or Makasae .

history

At the end of 1979 there was an Indonesian camp in Banderahun for East Timorese who were supposed to be relocated by the occupiers for better control.

At the beginning of September 1999, members of the AHI militia ( Aku Hidup dengan Integrasi / Indonesia ) systematically destroyed several sucos in Aileu, including Liurai on September 8, during Operation Donner . Houses were burned down and livestock killed.

politics

In the elections of 2004/2005 was Domingos Rodrigues Pinheiro elected Chefe de Suco and in 2009 re-elected. In the elections in 2016 won Eli Dias .
