Lodewijk Aerts (born October 2, 1959 in Geraardsbergen ) is a Belgian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Bruges .

Life

Aerts studied from 1977 at the seminary in Ghent and at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven . On July 7, 1984, he received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Ghent . After further studies, he was at the Pontifical Gregorian University in trade dogma to Dr. theol. PhD .

From 1988 to 1992, he taught philosophy at the seminary in Ghent. Then he taught dogmatics at the same seminar until 2002 and was spiritual . During this time he was also episcopal vicar for youth pastoral care . From 2002 to 2015 he was Episcopal Vicar for vocational pastoral care and training issues. In 2002 he became honorary canon at the cathedral of Ghent in 2016 Dean for the city of Ghent.

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Bruges on October 5, 2016. The episcopal ordination received his his predecessor Cardinal Josef De Kesel , Archbishop of Mechelen-Brussels , the same year on December 4. Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Ghent, Lucas Van Looy SDB , and his predecessor Arthur Luysterman .
