Lucien Lester Ainsworth (born June 21, 1831 in New Woodstock , Madison County , New York , †  April 19, 1902 in West Union , Iowa ) was an American politician . Between 1875 and 1877 he represented the state of Iowa in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Lucien Ainsworth attended public schools in his home country and the Oneida Conference Seminary in Cazenovia, New York. After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1854, he began to work in Belvidere ( Illinois ) in his new profession. In 1855 he moved to West Union, Iowa, where he also practiced as a lawyer. Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Party . Ainsworth served in the Iowa Senate between 1860 and 1862 .

During the Civil War he was a soldier in the Union Army, but was mainly used in the West against the Indians . He then returned to West Union and continued his legal practice. Between 1871 and 1873 he was a member of the Iowa House of Representatives . In 1874 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of the state , where he succeeded Republican William G. Donnan on March 4, 1875 . Since he turned down a new candidacy in 1876, Ainsworth could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1877 .

After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, Lucien Ainsworth withdrew from politics. He worked as a lawyer again and died on April 19, 1902 in West Union, where he was also buried.
