Ludovic Bource [ ly.do.vik buʁs ] (born August 19, 1970 in Pontivy , Bretagne ) is a French composer and arranger , who is also known under the stage names Dr Crunkenstein and Planet Get Down as a member of the French rap ensemble Svinkels . For his score for the feature film The Artist (2011) he won the Oscar and the Golden Globe Award .

Life

Ludovic Bource first came into active contact with music at the age of eight when he started playing the accordion . Despite moderate success, he did not let himself be discouraged and with the help of private music lessons he appeared as a musician at various festivals, celebrations, weddings and events at the age of eleven. After learning the piano at the age of 13 , he began studying at the Saint-Brieux and Vanne music schools . At the age of 19 he attended the SIM Paris jazz school. A mutual friend introduced Bource to French director Michel Hazanavicius in 1995 , for whom he then composed the music for three commercials.

After Bource had created enough compositions for Hazanavicius OSS 117 - The Spy Who Loved Himself (together with Kamel Ech-Cheik ) and OSS 117 - He is himself, in the style of the music of the 1960s and 1970s , he received great international attention for the composition to Hazanavicius The Artist . In April 2010, Bource, who describes himself as an autodidact, read the first draft of the script. He researched the soundtrack and composition of the silent film era , especially with regard to sound, rhythm, tempo and microphone position during the recording. For the theme music, he was inspired by works by Johannes Brahms . He also imitated the style of well-known Hollywood film composers such as Bernard Herrmann , Hugo Friedhofer , Max Steiner and Franz Waxman as well as individual compositions by the actor and comedian Charlie Chaplin . He then wrote a film score that was recorded by an orchestra of 80 musicians, the Brussels Philharmonic .
