Lukas Ruegenberg

Lukas Ruegenberg OSB (* as Alfred Ruegenberg July 21, 1928 in Berlin-Niederschöneweide ) is a Benedictine brother, social worker, picture book illustrator and writer. Before joining the Benedictine order in 1951, he studied at the Art Academy in Berlin.

Life

Born the son of Fritz and Helene Ruegenberg, he spent his childhood in Charlottenburg . His mother was the daughter of the painter Ernst Windhoff (1870-1936), who was connected to the naturalistic school.

He is best known for his picture books, which deal primarily with the subject of the Holocaust , anti-Semitism and the Third Reich . As an illustrator, he worked with Inge Deutschkron , Rupert Neudeck , Bruno Griemens , Georg Wieghaus and Willi Fährmann . In addition to the Holocaust, Ruegenberg primarily dealt with religious material and social problems. He made an altar cross for the Holy Family Church in Cologne-Dünnwald .
